This period in New England material culture celebrated bold color, imaginative design, and the captivating play of light on surfaces—principles we’ll bring to life through silk and stitch.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn this course, you'll create a two-part sampler featuring a series of classic counted alphabets and a large, folk-style floral basket, stitched entirely with untwisted silk threads. Using a historical technique drawn from American Fancy traditions, we’ll gently separate 2-ply Soie Gobelins silks, producing softly crinkled filaments that shimmer with light and texture. Stitch direction will be used intentionally to enhance reflection and give depth using even a single color of silk.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe example sampler is worked on Sycamore Seedpod linen (53\/63 count) and measures a delicate 8.25” inches wide by 8.25” inches high—perfect for stitchers who love precision work, textural techniques, and the intersection of historic craftsmanship and expressive design.  An option for those who want to work on 45 count linen is available, with rescaled embroidery design.
