Uses of Edging Paper

The same high-quality lining papers used for the covering of the cabinet surfaces are used to create the stamped edge strips for the edges of the cabinets. These strips can be applied in their full width for thick edges or cut in half to cover thinner edges, effectively doubling the coverage. I stock both purple and cream versions, each available with either silver or gold stamping. Many students like to match the stamping color to their woven trim or hardware for a cohesive look.

Just like the originals, the stampings sometimes feature faint or doubled edges due to the delicate nature of the paper being stamped. This is a natural characteristic of the process. To minimize these artifacts, my bookbinder carefully spends almost 20 minutes cutting and stamping each strip. Be mindful when handling the strips—excessive moisture or wiping at the edges can rub off some of the stamping, so it’s best to keep your fingers dry during this step.

You will need:

  • 1 strip for a Trinket Box
  • 4 strips for a Short Flat Casket
  • 6 strips for a Flat Casket
  • 18 strips for a Flat with Doors or Double Casket

Please note, there is a limited supply of these custom materials, and they are reserved for students of Thistle Threads.

The purple paper is being discontinued, so if you wish to order it, please email me while supplies last.
