Each tube is 16 meters long.  The collections are sold in shaded color families from the Cabinet of Curiosities Historic Colors Collection.  The plastic spools are being discontinued and all of these collections will return in the future when that process is complete.

Thread Structure

Soie Perlee is a 3 ply twisted filament silk in a soft buttonhole twist with one continuous strand on the tube.  It is usually used non-divided, straight from the spool.  In rare cases, it can be untwisted into the original three untwisted plies that then retain the soft kink in the ply from the twisting process.  This replicates the look of 18th century American samplers when using the untwisted silk for satin stitch.

Uses of Soie Perlee

Ideal for a variety of standard embroidery stitches, such as satin stitch and French knots, Soie Perlee is especially well-suited for creating flowers, dresses, drapes, leaves, and other larger pieces in needlelace or stumpwork.  Soie Perlee is used for needlelace to emulate the thicker filament silk used in the 17th century where more coverage per stitch is desired. Tents, dresses, drapes, and other large pieces of needlelace in stumpwork are great candidates for this thread weight. It can also be used for french knot ground cover and areas where a thick thread might add texture.  The thickness and sheen makes it a go-to thread for those working in crazy quilts and other free form embroidery.

This collection is made to capture that same spirit. Each strand, custom-dyed to perfection, replicates the natural tones that once graced the silkwork of a gilded age, enabling you to recreate those delicate shades in your own work. Bask in the depth of hues meticulously crafted to mimic the nuances of ancient dyes. Thistle Threads has curated a selection of threads designed to evoke the historical richness of the past, offering a stunning array of fibers in a wealth of shaded color families.

In perfect harmony with this ethereal array is a thoughtful, structured system designed for maximum flexibility and precision.
