Thread Structure
This thread is a high-quality metalized polyester strip wrapped around a cotton core, providing full coverage. The twist of the core thread is specially designed to make the final thread limp and easy to work with, ensuring a smooth stitching experience. Depending on the type of metallization, different colors can be fabricated.
Uses of Gold Wyre Threads
These faux threads are my go-to for learning 17th century metal stitches like plaited braid, reverse chain, ceylon, ladder, and more. They’re perfect for practicing before moving on to the more expensive real metal threads.
For the best results, use a Japanese needle. It prevents the thread from shredding and creates a clean hole in the linen to pull the thread through. The #9/10 Japanese needle works particularly well for all these Wyres.
