Chenilles are made by twisting short, cut filament silk lengths (called a pile) between two core yarns. The length of the cut pile as well as the tightness of the twist can change the look of the resulting thread. For this version, the pile spirals around the core yarn, sticking straight out like a pipe cleaner. Its color appears darker than its corresponding filament silk thread because of the cut ends, just like a velvet.
