Course Overview

This scissors case is inspired by the multitude of 17th century sweet bags and cushions which use tent stitch to work a design and then a long gobelin stitch in gold or silver thread for the background, imparting a delicious shine.  The small embroidered cuff is then finished and applied to an ultra suede glove which can house your scissors.  Originally taught in the Cabinet of Curiosities course, it is now being offered as a separate course for those who would like to try a small project with a gold thread background. The course is laid out with the following lessons.

Month 1 – Working the counted work and the Elizabethan knitting stitch in the background with gold thread
Month 2 – Making the ultra suede glove and attaching the cuff

It is recommended that you use a roller frame or hoop for this project, big enough to keep the entire cuff in the open area.  If you need help finding one or checking if yours will work, I’m happy to offer recommendations.

Course Flexibility

At Thistle Threads, we understand that life’s commitments can make it difficult to focus on a course every month. That’s why my courses are designed to be self-paced, allowing you to learn at your own rhythm. You can take breaks when needed, and the course material will remain available to you, often serving as a valuable reference for future projects once completed.
