Silk satin chenille is sold in 1 yard lengths
Thread Structure
Silk satin chenille is a satin velvet chenille made of filament silk and is approximately 2.5 mm in diameter. Chenilles are made by twisting short, cut filament silk lengths (called a pile) between two core yarns. The length of the cut pile as well as the tightness of the twist can change the look of the resulting thread. For this version, the pile lays down like scales so it has a direction and it must be used in the right direction of the gain of the scales. Its color changes depending on the incidence of light because of the cut ends and laid down silk filaments. Many colors of these exquisite elements are part of the Cabinet of Curiosities Historic Colors Collection. An additional set of colors were too yummy to not offer and won’t be replenished when gone.
Uses of Silk Satin Chenille
Silk satin chenille has a direction and is shaped like scales, so it must be used in the right direction of the gain of the scales. If you use it against the grain, it will come undone. Make a large hole with a needle or awl to pull the silk stain chenille through a fabric. It can be couched down onto a surface to make a fuzzy filling using a matching couching thread. It also looks luxurious used as an edge for pincushions.
