Kit Contents
This kit contains the two lacet braids, full tube of soie paris thread, gold thread, needle, contact paper and muslin. Free instructions for download. It is helpful to have something to protect the ends from fraying while working. Japanese rice glue works well and can be purchased from the pull-down menu.
Description and Techniques
Create a set of these gloves by whip-stitching lacet braid along the edges, bringing the braid to meet itself. These gloves were inspired by a pair found in the Martha Edlin Casket at the V&A. Many caskets from the period contained small projects like this, likely made by the girls as beginner pieces or exercises in technique.
