Thread Structure
This thread is a gilt over copper strip that is wound around a cotton core thread with full coverage. Three strands of are then twisted together to make a cord.
Uses of Gilt 1 1/2 Twist
The thread is used to outline areas for filling with silk purls on many pieces of 17th century stumpwork. The thread is approximately 1/32" in diameter and is lovely when couched in place with a strand of gold TIRE silk.
