A 1/8" wide flat silk braid, used on stumpwork embroidery to make small ties for shoes. Also used in finishing embroidery for strings and used to make flowers by slip stitching together into petals and leaves. Sold in yard increments, orders of more than 1 will be continuous if possible.
The lacets are a bit deeper in color than the pictures
Silk Soutashe is a trim that can be used to outline a project or be sewn down as an embroidery thread. 1.5 mm wide, it can be tacked down to make flat patterns or looped above the surface in a 17th century technique to fill large flowers or grassy areas.
Tresse De Soie 1/6 is a small round silk braid, approximately 1/2 mm in diameter, that is useful as a trim on stumpwork for small loops, edgings and which can be couched down to fill shapes with an interesting bumpy texture. Birds lend themselves to this treatment well to emulate the feathers. The braid also works well for finishing on smalls where larger cords are often too big for the project. Available in 21 colors of the historic color line. Sold in 1 meter lengths. If multiple meters of the same color are ordered, they will be cut in one long length.
During the summer of 2013 I was able to spend time at Au Ver a Soie and learn more about their capabilities. I knew they made some round braids (below) but the most fun was digging through the boxes of special things they made for the couture industry, looking for ideas. One of the things I came upon were these absolutely beautiful flat silk braids. These seven rolls were already made and were looking for a customer and were in colors in our historic color palette already! Access Commodities immediately imported them for me - they are very close to the sweet bag braids used for frog purses, grape purses, and bags and will work wonderfully for them.
I am selling them by the meter and will cut to measure so you can order multiple meters if needed and they will be continuous. The braids are just 3 mm wide.
Laying on top of the braids is a second type and much smaller. This is a pre-production sample of a braid used in stumpwork to make the small ties on shoes. This was my approval sample for a suite of braids to come in 2015 and placed here for scale.
