These threads are my current favorites for working 17th century metal stitches such as the plaited braid, reverse chain, ceylon, ladder and working backgrounds in Gobelin stitches.
Gilt Special Tambour (on cotton), Gilt 6-end silk and 90% Silver 6-end silk. The 6-end silk is slightly thinner than the special tambour. These are all 25 gram spools.
These three threads were made for me so I could work goblin stitch for the backgrounds of 17th century pieces. Many sweet bags have this treatment. The Gilt Special Tambour also makes a very fine and pleasing plaited braid.
A note on amounts. The finer threads are sold by grams and I do not know the exact number of meters for each. I can give a guide: A tube of Special Tambour will cover approximately 26 square inches of linen in half cross over two.

This is a very fine, tightly twisted filament silk that is extremely useful when couching silk wrapped purls, gold threads, and attaching spangles. The neutral gold color blends in with any metal thread couching and its small size (yet strong) enables it to disappear when using it with silk wrapped purls. I find that I would rather use one thread for all these uses than continually change the thread in my needle. Each spool has 109 yards on it.
There is gold (either #86 or it's replacement #74) and silver (#28).

Tresse De Soie 1/6 is a small round silk braid, approximately 1/2 mm in diameter, that is useful as a trim on stumpwork for small loops, edgings and which can be couched down to fill shapes with an interesting bumpy texture. Birds lend themselves to this treatment well to emulate the feathers. The braid also works well for finishing on smalls where larger cords are often too big for the project. Available in 21 colors of the historic color line. Sold in 1 meter lengths.

The conservation glue that is used to adhere paper and textiles to the wood carcass is wheat paste. I have had this bookbinding paste buffered with calcium carbonate (10:1) to a neutral pH to protect the metal threads. The starch has been pre-cooked so you only need to add four parts cold water to one part powder. The paste is mixed until smooth and then sieved to take out lumps. It can be kept in the refrigerator for several days. The paste is brushed or tapped onto the wood, paper, and fabric with bookbinding brushes. One packet is enough for a mirror frame. About 3-5 will be needed for a casket.

Blue contact paper for backing the patterns for whitework samplers. The package is 5 sheets of 8" x 8", enough for a whole band sampler.
